Let your purpose find you

Do you find yourself asking “What is my purpose?” every now and then?
Most of us try to define our purpose through outcomes or maybe even social expectations.
“Make a positive impact on society.”
“Do something meaningful for the environment.”
“Help others or give back.”
These are all noble goals. I believe, though, quite often they are driven more by emotions or external influences (or even expectations?) than true alignment.
Here is my take on it.
I believe that purpose that stems from one’s core values serves us all better.

Your core values are the guiding principles that shape your decisions, actions, and sense of fulfillment. When your actions align with your values, life starts to feel more meaningful, not because you are chasing a purpose, but because you are living it.
For example, a core value of compassion might lead you toward parenting, community service, or running an NGO. A core value of curiosity could draw you toward research, exploration, or teaching. A core value of creativity or contribution might inspire you to build, innovate, or start a business.
And who says you get to have only one purpose? You may recognize multiple purposes, one that connects to your career, another to your family, or one to your spiritual or personal growth.
When coaching clients, I frequently encourage them to delve into their core values by asking questions like “why?” and other reflective inquiries. This process helps them gain clarity and intentionally shape their career and life paths toward their purpose.
So instead of asking, “What is my purpose?” try asking:
“What values make me feel most alive and aligned?”
Start there.
Because once you live by your core values, your purpose will no longer feel like something you have to find; it will find you.
