Overcome Fear with a New Mental Picture

I heard a quote on a podcast recently:
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
I didn’t realize how true it was until I applied it to something surprisingly simple.
For the longest time, I was terrified of taking large-sized multivitamin pills.
I bought a bottle, opened it, saw the size, and froze.
I imagined it getting stuck in my throat.
That bottle sat in my cabinet for months… almost staring at me every time I opened the door. Not a single pill taken.
One day I paused and reflected:
“Millions of people take these every day. What exactly is scaring me?”
Then it hit me:
I was visualizing the pill scraping down my throat, pushed by water behind it.
Of course that felt terrifying.
So I changed the mental picture.
I imagined the pill floating in water, gliding down smoothly and effortlessly.
With that new visualization, I took the first pill. Successfully. 😀
Isn’t it fascinating?
In life and in our careers, we often stay stuck, not because the action is impossible, but because of the story we tell ourselves about it.
Sometimes fear, uncertainty, or limiting beliefs keep us from the dreams we are capable of living.
This is exactly what I help my clients with:
reframing fear, shifting mindset, and breaking out of mental blocks.
